News | Maxplugins needs your support
The following has been posted at renowned site Maxplugins.de: "This site generates a lot of traffic, and takes up quite a bit of my time to keep going. When I started the site, I vowed never to have any advertising here, because I personally hate sites with banners all over the place. I intend to keep it ad-free, but as the site becomes more and more popular I need to find a way to finance it. So if you find the site useful, and would like to contribute to keeping it going, feel free to click on the [PayPal] button. It will be much appreciated! Dave." Please consider contributing to Maxplugins on a regular basis if you use the site, whether you are a Max user or plugin developer. We all know the site and the developer behind it more than deserves it. And if you haven't ever thanked Dave Baker for all his hard work, think for just a second what would happen if Maxplugins disappeared. There, you got the picture.

bite the bullet and put ads on...

Posted by: at November 15, 2006 10:16 PM

I hate sites with ads, and try to avoid them where I can. It's not a question of me biting the bullet, I'm not the one that would be affected by having ads on the site, it's everyone else that uses the site (and that's a LOT of people).

i thought this site is owned by the splutterfishes? that they bought this site 2 years ago?? im wrong?

Hi termark,

MaxUnderground started after Noctilucent Combustion, my personal max news site and plugin links repository (not much space to actually host plugins back then!), ended. MaxUnderground was initially started by Scott Kirvan and a few others while he was still at Blur Studio. Although Scott Kirvan is now at SplutterFish, it is still his personal bill that is paying for MaxUnderground's hosting/etc.

If you were referring to maxplugins.de - nope, not 'owned' by SplutterFish in any way, shape, or form :) That said, I'm off to make my contribution.

Best regards,
Richard Annema
Director of Client Relations
SplutterFish, LLC

didn't mean to be so harsh about BITING THE BULLET.. i just think the service your offer on your site for is greater than this FEELING of not liking ads, i hate ads on tv but i still watch it....

Text-based ads are generally okay. Even graphic ads aren't that horrible when relevant to the content (CG in this case). Consider cgsociety e.g, they generally have 2 or 3 (and a couple smaller ones) cg related ads.

They are all bothersome, designed to distract and an attack on the brain. Life is much more beautiful without ads.

I have no problem with donating to maxplugins.de. It's been an *essential* resource down the years - long may it continue!

Why not get the commercial plugin makers to pay a small fee?

i would be happy to send some $
