News | The Area - Changes?
According to a recent post at Autodesk's forums, Shawn Hendriks has been handed the Area in the past few weeks and is trying to put it back on track. He's asking for feedback and suggestions from users.

A humble contribution: if Autodesk wants to see something working as well as the old Webboard did, they need look no further than the conditions provided by the old Webboard. The use of real names (and probably a login to access the forums) is needed. Small modifications will not change the current situation.

Darv just posted that the old weboard was slow as the hard ware was 12years old when it was shutdown.

Keep it simple and honest. No flashing website, go simple and spartan for fast, easy use of the forum. Real names yes! People are less inclined to be idiots when they can't hide behind anonymity. CONTENT is more important than gee-whiz flashy.

I hate to say it but Area was pretty horrible. It didn't ever get that feeling of usefulness or community out of it like we had on the old webboard. It was difficult to navigate and a bother to read, hence why I stopped visiting it.

If they can get the old webboard or equivilent going (there was an ASP version that was being tested that ran like a charm) I will be back in a moments notice. Just as long as they dont bury the information and make it a chore to find that is.

Real names are a must. I used to visit the webboard daily I might venture to the Area once a month. The quality of post is down significantly. pretty bells and whistles but they have lost the real substance that made the webboard great.
