Plugins | Plugin News - Autonomous Character crowd behavior plugin for 3ds max is in the works
Autonomous Character is a behavioral animation plugin by Montreal-based BioGraphic Technologies that allows animators to create natural-looking animations of large groups of interacting intelligent characters, such as F1 drivers passing at high speeds, sharks hunting schools of fish, or Roman legions crushing hordes of barbarians (see gallery). The autonomous character’s personality is created according to a rich set of behaviours such as pursuing other characters, following paths, joining groups and avoiding obstacles. Highlights include fast results for pre-visualization of animations with large numbers of characters, possible interaction of behaviors with dynamics (*) and the ability to leverage the results for game development via a SDK (offered separately). Autonomous Character has been recently released for Maya and a Max version is in the works: contact BioGraphic if you're interested in participating in their beta program.
Also of note, BioGraphic founder Paul Kruszewski has been co-developer of previous plugins such as Tree Druid and Thor.   [ more... ]

Would you like to have a way of automatically archiving these projects while still retaining control over what assets/subdirectories get backed up? Borislav Petrov's new Project Manager MaxScript does all this and much, much more. Project Manager will let you quickly browse assets by project with detailed file information (thumbnail, scene details, file size, etc.) without navigating deep menus, merge multiple files into a scene, perform context-sensitive file operations (such as playing sounds) from the modeless window, etc. It will even generate a HTML Catalog (see sample) with indexed snapshots of all Project Assets. Project Manager is still under development and can't be downloaded yet.

At the recent Intel Developer Forum, Louis Burns, general manager of Intel's Desktop Platforms Group, announced that Intel was working on a new generation I/O spec that would replace PCI. The spec, which looks to prepare I/O technology for the coming age of 10-GHz processors, will move away from shared buses, as in the Infiniband initiative for servers. There's already support in the industry behind another standard called HyperTransport from Advanced Micro Devices and analysts fear that Intel's new technology could split the industry.
