News | SIGGRAPH 2007 Computer Animation Festival Awards Announced
The Computer Animation Festival jury selected three award winners from 905 entries. Two of the award-winning films are student entries. The three films are: Ark by Grzegorz Jonkajtys and Marcin Kobylecki (Poland), Dreammaker by Leszek Plichta (Germany), and En Tus Brazos by François-Xavier Goby, Edouard Jouret and Matthieu Landour (France). News | Chinese Internet game operators ordered to install "anti-addiction" software
The software is aimed at limiting the amount of time children under the age of 18 are allowed to spend playing MMORPGs. Companies running such games in China have said the impact on their business won't be significant since only 10% of online game players from that country are below 18 years of age. Plugin News | NodeJoe - Schematic Material Editor public Beta 0.8 available
Another schematic material editor for Max surfaces, this time in the form of a plugin with many interesting features. According to the NodeJoe final release feature list, the plugin will support any material that is compatible with Max, and will thus be compatible with all available third-party material plugins. Lo and behold, it looks as if someone has finally invented the equivalent of a pencil sharpener for 3D modeling. With the tools being developed by Pixologic and Skymatter the process of 3D modeling is certainly maturing, and from what can be seen in the ZBrush gallery the new features of the software are clearly stimulating people's creativity.
