01.04.2024 This texture map can be used to render materials with a complex index of refraction (IOR). The Fresnel functionality in renderers such as V-Ray and Corona is for dielectric materials such as plastic and is based on the IOR of the material. Metals however have a more complex Fresnel reflective curve that depends also on another parameter called the extinction coefficient. The IOR and the extinction coefficient determine the two characteristics of the Fresnel curve for a material: the reflectivity at normal incidence and how quickly it fades to white at grazing angles. |
